Why the GE Café Range Was the Right Choice for Our Kitchen …

Going into it, I thought I knew exactly what I wanted: the GE Café double-oven range. It checked so many boxes on my wish list—gas with dual fuel, an integrated cast iron griddle, a double oven, and even the option to upgrade the handles and knobs.

But once I saw it in person at the appliance showroom, my perspective changed. The double oven just didn’t make sense for us. The lower oven, which was the larger of the two, felt cramped, and the rack sat so low that getting a heavy Dutch oven in and out would be a back-breaking task. I actually brought my Dutch oven with me to the store to test it out (highly recommend doing this if you bake bread like I do!), and that was the dealbreaker. As much as I loved the idea of a double oven, the reality wasn’t practical for our kitchen.

With that settled, I turned my attention to the Café single oven. I started playing with the finish options for the knobs and handles, and I was feeling confident that this was “the one”—until I wandered over to the GE Monogram range.

The Monogram is GE’s high-end line, and I’ll admit I was smitten. Those smooth, easy-glide oven racks alone were enough to make me linger, not to mention the overall luxury feel. But Monogram ranges are big, bold, professional-style appliances, and in our small kitchen they would have looked clunky and out of place. The steep price tag sealed the decision for me—it just wasn’t the right fit.

In the end, I chose the GE Café range, and I have no regrets. It looks beautiful in our kitchen and meets all of our everyday cooking and baking needs. I went with the brushed brass knobs and handles, and they tie in perfectly with the brass pot rail and copper pieces hanging above the stove. It feels cohesive, stylish, fit our budget, and most importantly—practical for the way we cook.

In my next post I’ll share about the brass pot rail and the copper I’ve collected.
