Antique Finds

CheriANTIQUES

I recently made an antique haul on Facebook Marketplace, local thrift stores, and a few antique shops.

I was thrilled when I found these crocks on Facebook Marketplace. I’ve wanted a Red Wing crock since we moved to Minnesota 28 years ago. Red Wing is a little over 40 miles from our home and one of our favorite places to visit. Unbeknownst to me, Kirk has also wanted a Red Wing crock! It was fun to get all four crocks for much less than a single Red Wing crock is commonly priced.

Vintage Baker’s Rack

I’ve been searching for a baker’s rack to use on our back patio to hold plants and to help create a cozy space. I was looking for a taller one to create some visual height in the space and a vintage one was preferred. When I spotted this one at a local antique shop I knew I had found what I wanted.

Even though I knew it was the one I’d been looking for — in a perfect color – I didn’t buy it when I saw it. Crazy, right? I went home and thought about it and measured the space first. It was priced higher than I was willing to pay and I got hung up on the price.

I finally decided to give the shop a call and offer less. I had birthday money to spend from my mom and sisters and knew this would be a wonderful way to use my birthday gift. The shop accepted my lowball offer (which is very rare). I couldn’t get to the shop quick enough to pick it up!

I love how it looks on the patio!

Later that day I found and bought a vintage oak file cabinet for my office. I already had one, but it didn’t fit my file folders, and though I made it work with some hacks, having one that works is so much nicer. The file cabinet was also on FB Marketplace.

We also went to another nearby antique mall where I found some wood utensils for a couple of dollars each, an ironstone bowl and ironstone pitcher.

Last week, the morning before our kids and grandkids arrived for the week my friend, Marian, Nate, and I checked out a parking lot antique sale and a thrift store in a nearby town. I didn’t get much, but I am really happy with what I found.

This old bucket for a couple dollars works nicely as a plant container caught my eye at the last minute!

At the thrift store, I was about to walk out empty-handed when I saw these bowls sitting on the counter waiting to be priced and set out for sale.

The price was perfect – and the bowls match other bowls and plates I’ve found at thrift stores and use daily.

Nate and I are joining Marian again later this week to another antique mall about 40 miles away. Hopefully, this lucky streak continues!
