Cutting garden

Dahlia

Yesterday I wrote about the flowers we used for the wedding and how we cut most of the flowers we used from the roadside near our home.  Today, it’s flowers from my cutting garden.

My favorite bouquets have always been the ones cut from the roadside, or yard.  Mr. D has always been willing to pull over on the road so I could pick a bouquet.  He probably doesn’t remember this:  On the one year anniversary of our first date we were both counselors at church camp.  Mr. D  came to pick me up at my cabin with a bouquet of wild flowers he had just picked.  We were 18 years old.

When we welcomed our 2nd and 3rd children into the world, Mr. D brought me flowers from our yard to brighten our hospital room.  (there was snow on the ground for our first).

From our first house to our current home ….there’s always been a cutting garden.  The garden sizes have varied at each home, and there have been different flowers.  One flower has been a constant.  The zinnia.  My favorite.

The baby’s breath was beautiful this summer …

I’ll be enjoying these flowers and homemade
