Dad was an icon to many people.
For those who were fortunate enough to have known him he is remembered as a kind, fun-loving man who adored his kids and grandkids. He was a caring man with a servant heart
who took care of more people than most, including his parents, brother, aunt and our mom.
A cold beer on a hot day was one of Dad’s greatest pleasures. Dad was a beer drinker, and though he never met a beer he didn’t like, he preferred Miller Genuine Draft. He loved a cold beer on a hot day as much he loved a large mouth bass on the end of his fishing line.
Dad loved music and filled his life with it. He was a trumpet player and played in a few dance bands for about 30 years. He played boogie-woogie, Polish polkas, Swing and Jazz.
We can measure his life by the many photographs, movies, sheet music and soundtracks he leaves.
Our hero has passed on now, and leaving a daughter, a son, a son-in-love and a daughter-in-love. Us two “outlaws” were never considered or treated as outsiders … to mom and dad, we were their kids too. When my husband and I were newly engaged Dad would introduce me as his new daughter rather than future daughter-in-law.
Six young adults will greatly miss their grandpa who has loved them unconditionally and entertained them for years with his stories and antics. His grandchildren have all loved introducing their friends to him. We all loved sharing this special man with people in our lives.
We are all proud of him, of all that he was,
and all that maybe he would have liked to be
if times and his health had been different.
We are mostly proud to say this one thing:
Of all that he was – He was our Dad and Grandpa.
Love you Dad.
Always will.
