I’ve enjoyed reading my friend Marian’s “Four Things” blog posts over the past few months. After reading her first post, I realized I had been keeping lists of quotes, books, movies, and projects for years, and I never once considered sharing any of my lists here on my blog. As usual, Marian has the best ideas and I’m joining her on this one!

Marian shares her four things weekly. I’m not sure I can keep up that pace, but I hope to share my four things at least twice a month. Like Marian, I plan to share what I’m reading, what I’m watching, what I’m loving, and what I’m working on. While I can’t guarantee I’ll maintain this format, I do plan to share things I’m keeping on my lists. As I look back over the lists I’ve kept, I see that I’ve accomplished more than I thought (which is another reason lists are good!) So, here we go with my first Four Three Things…
What I’m Reading
A goal I’ve set for myself in 2025 is to read more. While I enjoy reading, I haven’t read as many books as I used to. Reading a book from which I can learn something is my go-to. I rarely read novels because I find them too predictable. The book I’m currently reading is historical fiction. The Women, by Kristin Hannah, is essentially a true-to-life recounting of the Vietnam War. This book focuses on women, particularly one woman, who served in Vietnam as a surgical nurse. The Vietnam War was horrible, and the nation did not honor the service of our soldiers/troops. It was heartbreaking reading about the mistreatment of the women and men upon their return to the States and their prolonged suffering after their service. This is the first book I’ve read about the Vietnam War. I was in elementary or middle school for most of the war, but I remember it: the nightly news, the numbers reported of more and more young men dying, protests, marches, and the music of the Vietnam years. The story is good, the recounting is accurate. If you served in Vietnam, THANK YOU.

What I’m Loving
Kirk bought me a ZZ Plant for Christmas. He has been talking about this plant since he saw it in our church lobby months ago. I’m pretty sure that was a driving force in the purchase. This pretty plant is easy to grow and keep alive (important). I’ve been reading up on houseplants lately and plan to share what I learn in future posts.

The view out our front window has been pretty gloomy lately. Green and growing plants help!

What I’m Working On
We have a couple of weddings in our family in 2025. Two of my nieces, also sisters, are getting married this year. The first wedding is in early June, and there will be a shower this spring. I worked on some shower details and planning over the last couple of days. Along with the bride, we nailed down a theme and a time, the invite style, and we have a guest list. We just need to nail down a date! I haven’t always been this prepared for a shower – and I have to say it feels nice to have some decisions made.
