Happy 23rd Birthday to our “Wild One”
Cara Kjersti
Cara was first. First born that is. We pretty much knew from the beginning that she wasn’t going to be one of those “compliant” children who made parenting look easy. Nope, she is our strong-willed child. Strong willed children have a way of making us parents feel like failures. No matter what we said to Cara — she did the opposite — or said the opposite. If we said the flower is red, she’d say pink. If we said bedtime is 8 she’d stay up in bed to do different.
Raising Cara to be the strong-willed, capable, intelligent, independent, funny woman she is today came with it’s struggles (some of you know what I’m talkin’ about)….DIY guy and I believe in the ancient proverb — “What doesn’t kill you, will make you stronger”. Today Cara is stronger….and so are we. Being the first kid means you are the guinea pig…like I told Cara over and over “I’ve never been a parent of a 5, 10, 13, 16 __ (fill in the blank) year old before!”
…and I apologized. Often.
The moment I heard this song, by Faith Hill — I knew it would be Cara’s theme song!
They said change your clothes
She said no I won’t
They said comb your hair
she said some kids don’t
And her parents dreams went up in smoke
They said you can’t leave
She said yes I will
They said don’t see him
She said his name is bill
She’s on a roll and it’s all up hill
She’s a wild one
With an angel’s face
She’s a woman-child
In a state of grace
When she ws 3 years old on her daddy’s knee
He said you can be anything you want to be
She’s a wild one
Runnin’ free
She loves Rock and Roll
They said it’s Satan’s tongue
She thinks they’re too old
They think she’s too young
And the battle lines are clearly drawn
She’s a wild one
With and angel’s face
She’s a woman-child
In a state of grace
When she was 3 years old on her daddy’s knee
He said you can be anything you want to be
She’s a wild one
Runnin’ free
She has future plans and dreams at night
When they tell her life is hard she says that’s alright
She’s a wild one
With an angel’s face
She’s a woman-child
In a state of grace
When she was 3 years old on her daddy’s knee
He said you can be anything you want to be
she’s a wild one
Runin’ free
Happy Birthday Wild One!
