There’s something magical about walking through the front door during the Christmas season and being greeted by a cozy, festive foyer. Even if you’re decorating at the last minute (no shame—I pulled this decor together over the weekend!), a few thoughtful touches can completely transform your entryway into a welcoming holiday space.

To start the decorating I rummaged through the decor I didn’t use elsewhere in the house. From there, it became a creative process—arranging, adding, taking away, and adjusting until everything found its perfect place.

Start With a Vintage Anchor Piece
My antique drop-front desk has a permanent home in our foyer, and it makes the perfect anchor piece for the space. The vintage typewriter is also always on the desk. I like how instantly adds character and feels like a little piece of nostalgia greeting you at the door. It’s the perfect piece for the desk and I didn’t want to remove it, so I decorated around it by swagging a faux garland over the desk and around the typewriter.

Next I pulled out some extra faux stems and placed them in the basket on the floor, and placed a little tree on a small oak stool from another room in the house. This was a good addition, it looked a little bare before the tree was added. I also grabbed a light throw from a bedroom to add to the chair — because it can be drafty to type Christmas letters in the foyer 🙂

Next, I added a vintage Santa photo postcard from 1928. Apparently a pony was standing in for the reindeer that year!

Over the desk I framed a print by Ruth Chou Simons

Nike just came in from outside — can you tell it was snowing this morning?

The entire foyer refresh took less than an hour, and I genuinely enjoyed the process—gathering pieces, rearranging, and editing until it matched the vision I had in my mind. Now, instead of rushing through the space, I find myself slowing down to appreciate it each time I walk by. If you’re looking for quick inspiration, I hope this encourages you. I didn’t purchase a single new item—everything came from what I already had on hand—and it all came together beautifully.
