I’ve become a little bored with the garden over the last few years. It wasn’t pretty or inspiring and I knew I could make some improvements that would rekindle my love of gardening. This year I wanted to try a fresh approach and I’m so excited to watch it grow.
Harvest
Incredible. I am finally sitting down for the first time since 9:00 am this morning! Today was (another) harvest day at The Cottage. Started with the raspberries – so many to pick. The raspberries are hitting their prime right now – the bushes are very full! The green peppers and jalapeno plants were a complete … Read More
Wordless Wednesday
A few of my favorite things . . .
in the yard
Yesterday was a beautiful day to be outside and in the garden. Noticing that the mice and other critters were starting to snack on the jack-be-little pumpkin/gourds in the garden, I made an executive decision to harvest them. Leaving the eight or so ones that were half-eaten, I got busy collecting the rest of the gourds. … Read More
Garden beauty
Canned some more tomato/basil spaghetti sauce today with some of the tomatoes and basil in our garden. I grew up just a few miles from Lake Michigan, so I realize it is “Lake Effect”. In the fall, it is always warmer near the lake. The mix of fall decorations and … Read More
Gourd inspiration

There were pretty and unique gourds and pumpkins decorating the streets, store fronts and even gas stations in Door County. Now I’m inspired to grow gourds again. Next year. The bumpy pink gourds/pumpkins caught my eye. White … Read More
Tales ….
It’s that time of year — the mice are lurking around the garage looking for a warm winter vacation spot, the spiders are winding webs to wrap around your face when you least expect it, and the local squirrels turn evil attacking gourds and pumpkins with a fervor that is inconceivable. They roll the orange … Read More
