I enjoy gathering travel souvenirs from a trip as much as anyone. They are a tangible way to remember trips and vacations and for me to enjoy our travel experiences long after the trip.
We all know there are endless souvenirs and shops at tourist destinations. On our recent travels to Anna Maria Island, FL for some time on the beach; Ashville, NC to tour the Biltmore mansion; and Nashville, TN to experience the culture and music, there were seemingly endless opportunities to purchase tchotchkes at each destination to remind us of our visits.
My approach to souvenirs is looking for items I already collect to add to my collections. During this trip, I found plenty to add to my collections! I purchased an ironstone platter and bowl, copper measuring cups, and a vintage frame at a thrift store, blocks from our Airbnb. I picked up seashells, driftwood, and a magnolia seed pod from the beaches on the Ocean and Gulf. While the guys did some exploring, I explored an antique shop and found vintage bookends and a brass turtle coconut scraper/cheese grater.
At the home of President Andrew Jackson, (in a souvenir shop) I found a cute little blank book, that I’m going to have our little loves write their names. And, at The Fox Mercantile, I found some cute brass clips.
I also “collected” photos of books. Several souvenir shops had a nice selection of books I enjoyed browsing through. If I liked the books, I took a quick photo of the cover and later added them to my Amazon list for a possible future purchase. Many books I found in shops are half the price on Amazon and fit my budget better. The Floriography book arrives tomorrow!
All the places we visited were wonderful and a step back in time! I’ll post a blog soon on our travels and thoughts on the places we visited.
