Cottage in the City, part 2

Cottage Living Room

I’m back to share the beautiful interior of our friends’ home. I shared the exterior of this darling cottage HERE. I love that this home is just as stunning outside as it is inside. This home is sold now, but it is so full of creativity and inspiration that it needs to be shared.

I am incredibly honored to have our cottage home featured in Marian Parsons‘ book, Feels Like Home, MidwestHome.com, and Cottages and Bungalows magazine, but it is not lost on me that there are so many other beautiful homes in this world that are magazine and book worthy. Every now and then I like to share some of the homes that have inspired me. This home is very near and dear to my heart and if full of inspiration.

Cottage Kitchen

Here’s the kitchen, the first room you walk into after entering the back foyer and going up a few stairs. Isn’t the little banquette nook incredible?

The details. Always the details in this home.

From the kitchen you can see into the dining room and the living room . . .

Cottage Dining Room

Kirk and I sat at this table last weekend with our friends and played our last game of “marbles” here after we enjoyed a dinner out. Dinner, either in or out, followed by a game is a common occurrence for the four of us.

Before the remodel, the kitchen was closed off to the rest of the rooms. By removing a wall, installing new custom cabinets and built-ins this cottage has an open flowing floor plan and feels so much larger. Are you inspired yet?

Built-ins at either side of the living room window, including a bench, were custom made and add so much character to the room. Every single time we were visiting I left with ideas.

Here’s a brilliant idea. The coffee table, there in front of the sofa, was made from an old door by adding iron pipes. When needed, the table can be raised to dining table height by adding pipes to the legs. A great idea when all the kids and grandkids came for Christmas!

Cozy Cottage Den

The den off the living room used to be a bedroom. Behind the shelving unit wall is a hallway to access a bathroom and a bedroom. The French doors open to the patio.

Another creative idea … using drawer pulls from Hobby Lobby to create art on the wall behind the recliner.

Vintage Cottage Bathroom

This cute vintage bathroom is off the hallway behind the dining room wall. I was inspired by this bathroom when we were designing ours.

And this is the bedrooom off the same hallway. Isn’t that bed a stunning piece of furniture? I’ve always liked this bedframe — infact, I liked it so much it is now at our house!

Cozy Basement Family Room

Stairs from the backdoor lead to this basement family room. This space has a gorgeous master bathroom and bedroom, a nice size laundry room and a storage closet.

Instead of hanging wallpaper, the walls were stenciled with gold paint.

Personal touches like the framed black and white photos of the grandchildren are a conversation starter and stunning wall decor.

Basement Master Bedroom

Eggress windows were added in the basement so another bedroom could be added to the home and a beautiful master suite with living area and a beautiful bathroom came to life!

I’d love to hear how this home inspired you. Was it the stenciled wall? Or colors used in the rooms? Maybe it was wall decor or furniture?
