Finally, after several hectic weeks and out-of-town trips, I was alone in the house. I was ready to nest and spend some time cleaning, organizing, and re-styling some areas of our home. I had already planned to start in the kitchen, so I lit a candle, started the diffuser, and played jazz in the background on Spotify.
Open Kitchen Shelves Refresh
The last time I gave some attention to the kitchen was during the pandemic. You can read my post about that change HERE. My goal this time was to restyle the open shelves in our kitchen into a stylish and organized focal point. The shelves looked fine as they were. I just wanted to give some new ideas a try. I have noticed copper pieces are becoming more prevalent in decor and I remember having some in storage.
I wanted to keep the shelves functional, so I kept our everyday dishes and often-used serving pieces easily accessible. Our dishwasher is right below the shelves, so it is really convenient to unload dishes onto the shelves.
I worked top to bottom on the shelves arranging and re-arranging things to get the look I wanted. I added in the copper pieces and finally added some linen towels and a houseplant to add some color.
I added my antique breadboard I found at a Texas antique store when we were there last winter – and I love having it where I can see it every day.
I moved the ironstone cake stand on the counter to the shelves too. I wasn’t sure if it would remain on the shelves or end up back on the counter – but I do like it here so it will stay (at least for now).
Adding the basket tray and copper gave the shelves a warmer vibe. The houseplant brought some life and color to the shelves.
I moved items I no longer need on the shelves, to the baker’s rack in the dining area, the glass front cupboard, or I donated them.
I think I’m done with the shelf re-fresh. The truth is … they are just done-for-now.
It was a very productive day of cleaning and organizing. Editing some items and passing them on to others felt good. I definitely need to do more!
